Cien Años de Soledad

One Hundred Years of Solitude is a novel by the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez, winner of the 1982 Nobel Prize for Literature. It is considered a masterpiece of Latin American and universal literature, as well as one of the most translated and read works in Spanish.

It tells the saga of the Buendía family and its curse, which punishes marriage between relatives by giving them children with pig’s tail. Like a river overflowing, over a century their destinies will be interwoven through marvelous events in the fantastic town of Macondo, in a narrative that is the undisputed summit of magical realism and boom literature. Universal allegory, it is also a vision of Latin America and a parable about human history.

My personal opinion is that it is a very original book and for those who like fantasy and reality One Hundred Years of Solitude is the perfect book to find these unique characteristics of mixing ordinary life with a bit of magic.
